Mohawk Nationals Weekend Packed With Action and Top Stars By: Tim Baltz

Once again the annual Mohawk Nationals take center stage as all 4 DirtCar Series are in town and with exciting action 1 season ago the 2017 edition is expected to be all that and more.

Friday night the weekend kicks off with the 4th event of the season for the DirtCar 358 Modified Series and reigning series champion Chris Raabe finds himself in the same spot he ended in 2016, on top of the mountain. Raabe holds a small 2 point advantage over fellow Mohawk regular Jordan McCreadie while 5 time series champion Danny Johnson is just 39 points behind and will be gunning for his 6th series championship. The DirtCar Pro Stock Series will join the 358 Modifieds and defending race winner Rob Yetman has been dominant with 3 wins and a 324 point cushion over 2 time and defending series champion Jocelyn Roy. Joining 358 Modified and Pro Stock Series will be the Quebec Lightning Sprints and the TUSA Mod Lites with gates opening at 4pm, hot laps and time trials at 6:30 while the first green flag will drop on the first heat of the night at 7:30pm.

With his recent surge back into the running for a 6th Super DirtCar Series title, Matt Sheppard rides a wave of confidence after his 8th win of the season at the RPM Speedway last Saturday night making it 7 series wins in his last 10 outings. Billy Decker leads the standings by 73 points over Larry Wight who's fresh off a big win at Granby and a close 2nd to Sheppard at RPM. The Big Blocks will be a part of the Saturday portion of the weekend along with the 4th annual Pete Mitchell Memorial for the DirtCar North Regional Sportsman Series. With 3 different winners in 3 years, the chance for a 4th different winner is very much a possibility as drivers from every region will be on hand for the big event. Also on the card the TUSA Mod Lites will be back for the 2nd straight night along with the 2nd appearance of the season for the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club. Gates will open at 2pm with hot laps and time trials beginning at 4:30pm.
