Race teams and fans from all over New York, Ontario and Quebec are expected to converge on Mohawk International Raceway for this season's Atomic Spring Clash on Saturday April 25 and Sunday April 26. This event kicks off the 2015 racing season for many North Country and Canadian racing teams, with extra distance events and major prize-money on the line!
Go Nuclear Late Models (Saturday and Sunday). The Go Nuclear Late Models provide race fans with the exciting action that makes them one of North America's most popular divisions, while utilizing economical "Crate" spec motors that hit the perfect mix of horsepower and affordability. The Atomic Spring Clash will be the opening event for the Go Nuclear Late Models, with one feature on Saturday and Twin 25 feature events on Sunday. Teams from all over Ontario and New York are expected to take a run at the large purse being offered.
The Go Nuclear Late Models will be back in action the very next weekend just across the border at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday, May 3 as part of that track's Spring Sizzler Weekend and they will return to MIR in September for the season-ending doubleheader on Friday, September 18th and Saturday, September 19th.
DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds (Saturday and Sunday). In just a few short years, the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified division has been revitalized by the adoption of the GM Crate 602 spec motor, becoming one of the most competitive and successful divisions on the East Coast. Featuring the appealing look of the popular open-wheeled Modified cars, the Sportsman division offers a rich mix of experienced veterans,
upcoming young drivers and working-class racers who love the thrill of competition. MIR regularly draws fields of over 30 Sportsman cars every Friday night, and with this early season doubleheader, expect outsiders from Quebec, Ontario and New York to come in to challenge MIR's stellar field of regular drivers.
Empire Super Sprints (Saturday only). The Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints feature the thrilling open-wheeled, alcohol-burning winged Sprint cars that quicken the pulse of racing fans around the world. Breathtaking speeds and heart-stopping action on every lap make them one of the most exciting forms of motorsports.
With MIR a reasonable distance from Quebec, expect the top ESS Quebec stars and their passionate fans to arrive in full force to try to take the checkered flag home and steal the win from the New York and Ontario Sprint car stars!
The Atomic Spring Clash at Mohawk International Raceway will be the first of two appearances for the ESS at MIR in 2015 (also appearing Friday, June 5th). This race will also be the second event in the SUNY Canton Series for the ESS. (The opening SUNY Canton race will be the night before, Friday, April 24, at Can-Am Motorsports Park in LaFargeville, NY, just north of Watertown.)
DIRTcar 358 Modifieds (Sunday only). The premier weekly division in the Seaway Valley, the DIRTcar 358 Modifieds bring awesome horsepower and exciting battles to Mohawk International Raceway every Friday night during the racing season.
Sunday's "Nuclear Thaw 40" will not only be the season opener for MIR's headline division, it will also be the first qualifying race leading up to this year's Salute the Troops 150 during NAPA SuperDIRT Week XLIV at the New York State Fairgrounds (Syracuse, NY) in October. Expect a strong field of invaders from Ontario and Quebec to be on hand to challenge the MIR regulars in this battle to the checkered flag!
